 Controversy

Well, things have become confrontational on the message boards of both Crystal’s site and FictionMania. It’s starting to bleed over to TopShelf too, but hopefully it won’t reach there.

The problem is with a gentleman by the name of “Noah Vail” (a cute pun on “no avail”). He wrote several stories featuring an 8 year old being taken by adults in a sexual manner while dressed as a little girl.

The controversy’s shape is about “what is censorship”? There are a lot of people on both sites that want his stories removed posthaste, because they promote kiddie porn. They deal with sex situations with minor children. That is an accurate definition of the problem.

My take on it all? I don’t really have one. You see, I believe deeply in “live and let live”. While I do feel that both FictionMania and Crystal’s should stand by their posted Terms of Service and delete the stories (for promoting illegal acts, which is on their terms of service), I don’t think they should be removed from the Internet.

Let’s be rational. People are going to write stories that fit their perversions and nothing and no one is going to stop them. Him writing this for his own use is fine. Him sharing it with others is also fine. I don’t agree with the content at all, nor do I get aroused by the thought of a 10 year old having sex, but in America speech is protected.

He’s going to advocate that kind of activity, fine. He may do so. I don’t have to read it. The sites he has posted them on have Terms of Service that explicitly prohibit illegal acts, and as such they should stand by it and remove the stories. If they did not have such in their TOS, I wouldn’t ask them to remove the stories.

I can exercise my option and “change the channel” so as not to read what I find offensive.

Point in fact, I started reading one of the stories, just to see what was objectionable. I saw “my mother dressed me as a girl at 8 years old for her Johns” in the first sentence, and that was enough for me. I closed the window.

Let him write it, let him post it to sites that do not have clauses about no illegal activities. I’m fine with that. I don’t have to read it. It is as simple as that.

Crystals TOS does not say she won’t post stories that include illegal acts (many stories include theft and other things that are quite illegal). The TOS says she will not post stories that ARE illegal to post. And by current US definition, those stories aren’t illegal. No matter how vile I think they are, and wish they didn’t exist, if Crystal wishes to host them, it is her choice.

My objection to Noah, and others of his ilk, is his pollution of StorySite!
Let him write and post his sewage on the already malfunctioning sewer plant called FM!
That site has become a repository for many years for filth and crap anyway.

I do not want it on StorySite!

The whole censorship/free speech issue is BARF!!

I and others do not want kiddie porn posted there!

It’s Crystal’s choice no one else’s. If it was your site, it would be your site. You have the choice to read the stories, or not. You have the choice to visit Crystal’s or not. There are plenty of other T* Fiction sites on the net.

Karen, I believe you. I also agree with you. It IS trash and it SHOULDN”T be on a story site that tries to be quality like Crystal’s does. But if what Piper says is true, then it really is up to Crystal if she has it up there. We can complain, but ultimately, it is Crystal’s choice.

I love Crystal’s. I just started putting my stories up there in fact, but no one is forcing you to read the stories you object to.

    Love ya hon!

I believe that one should be free to write and read what one wishes, however there has to be a line drawn somewhere and although I tend not to read the more explicit BDSM stories, mainly because they are often well over the top to be realistic I have no problem with them. Kiddie porn and any “literature” that suggests the rape and sexual abuse of minors falls into the category of “do not publish” and I think that any site that allows this should be warned and if continued closed down. Sites writing disclaimers isn’t enough the owner needs and must be held accountable for the content published.

    @Piper

Crystal’s TOS also says the following:

    5. You do not find images of nude adults, adults engaged in sexual acts, or other sexual material to be offensive or objectionable.
    6. You realize that nobody was harmed or abused in the writing of these stories, and that the stuff you read here is purely fictional and that you have no misconception about the un-reality of the stories.

Point #5 doesn’t warn visitors that they might also encounter stories where those same adults are engaged in sexual acts with children.

Point #6 doesn’t take into account child victims of paedophiles who get to relive the horrors they’d suffered when they encounter stories that glorify such acts. Noah Vail’s stories not only glorify this kind of assault on children, but also assert that children could actually like it, too.

..and then there’s point #1 of Crystal’s FAQ which states: “There is no kiddie-porn on StorySite and never will be.” And before someone tries to pull a legal nit-pick about how written material doesn’t technically qualify under U.S law as paedophile erotica, the author of those stories in question has himself publicly admitted his stories are paedophile erotica.

That being the case, it is still undisputed that it is Crystal’s decision to allow those stories to remain or any future similar stories to be archived on her site. Crystal has been conspicuously absent from this debate in the forums and I, for one, would like to hear her state her position on the matter one way or the other.
